'Practical Magic 2' Pulled From Some 2,100 Theaters as Box Office Run Winds Down

Friday, October 2, 2026 · Film · GSM News

Warner Bros. quietly pulled the fantasy sequel 'Practical Magic 2' from roughly 2,100 North American theaters heading into the Oct. 2 frame, MovieWeb reported, cutting its theater count from a peak of 4,163 to 2,063 ahead of a digital debut on Oct. 13.

Directed by Susanne Bier and reuniting Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the Owens sisters, with Joey King, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace and Xolo Maridueña joining the cast, the sequel opened Sept. 11 to $30 million — enough to end 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day's' six-week reign at No. 1, though short of the $40 million some projections had floated. A 59% second-weekend drop followed, and by early October the film was earning under $3 million per weekend, with a worldwide total of about $101 million, per Box Office Mojo.

Against a reported $75 million production budget and a break-even point near $150 million, Variety estimated the theatrical run could leave Warner Bros. $30 million to $40 million in the red. Critics gave it 36% on Rotten Tomatoes, close to the 1998 original's 31%, while audiences scored it a 'Verified Hot' 91% — a nostalgic, female-skewing fantasy that modern viewing habits ultimately pushed toward the couch.
