FDA Classifies 122,000-Case Gatorade Recall as Class II Over Undeclared Color Additives

Friday, October 2, 2026 · States · GSM News

The FDA on October 2 classified the recall of 122,000 cases of Gatorade as Class II, after the drinks were found to contain undeclared artificial colors — Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6, savannahnow reported.

A Class II recall indicates a reversible health risk. The FDA said consumers sensitive or allergic to the color additives could experience adverse reactions. Multiple lots are affected; shoppers can check bottle lot codes.

The manufacturer has begun pulling products and offering refunds. The FDA advises checking pantries and contacting the company or reporting reactions to the agency.

FDA scrutiny of artificial food colors has tightened in recent years, with Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 under particular watch. Food-safety experts advise color-sensitive shoppers to read ingredient labels carefully and prefer products marked free of artificial colors.
