Kraken Rout Flames 6-1 in Season Opener, Showing Early Scoring Punch

Friday, October 2, 2026 · City · GSM News

Seattle is a city in King County, Washington. The Seattle Kraken opened the 2026-27 NHL season on October 1 with a 6-1 rout of the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome, an emphatic first statement from a team that ranked 28th in scoring last season.

Captain Jordan Eberle scored in the first period as Seattle spread the scoring around, and the opener set a tone that continued through the season's first week — the Kraken went on to score six goals in three of their first five games. The win came at a cost: 23-year-old forward Jacob Melanson left with an upper-body injury after one shot in 9:31 of ice time and was placed under evaluation by the team's medical staff.

For a franchise that joined the NHL in 2021 and struggled to score a year ago, the early offensive surge has raised expectations ahead of the home opener at Climate Pledge Arena.
