Yuja Wang Plays Barber in Three-Night Disney Hall Stand With LA Phil

Friday, October 2, 2026 · Performance · GSM News

Pianist Yuja Wang began a three-night stand at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Friday, Oct. 2, performing Barber's Piano Concerto with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Canadian conductor Kwamé Ryan, according to the LA Phil's 2026/27 season schedule. Performances continued Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 4 at 2 p.m.

The all-American program also featured John Adams' 'Short Ride in a Fast Machine' and Copland's Symphony No. 3, in line with the orchestra's season-long focus on American voices. Wang had played movements from the Barber concerto at the season-opening Gala the night before; the complete concerto anchored her Southern California visit.

Disney Hall's October calendar stayed dense: Lang Lang was scheduled for a recital on Oct. 6, and Susanna Mälkki was to conduct Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra later in the month, underscoring the hall's heavy first-month schedule for the new season.

Barber's Piano Concerto, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cornerstone of the American piano repertoire, tests a soloist's technique and musicianship alike. Wang has become a fixture of opening weeks at major orchestras worldwide and is regarded as one of the strongest box-office draws among pianists; tickets for her three Los Angeles performances tightened early in the subscription sales period.
