Wisconsin Trooper Bradley Ritger Dies of Injuries From September Bridge Fall During Pursuit

Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Bradley Ritger, 29, succumbed October 2 to injuries suffered when he fell from a bridge during a September 21 traffic pursuit, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced October 3.
Ritger had deployed a tire deflation device on a bridge deck west of the Dunn County/Eau Claire County line and fell onto the roadway below while moving to a position of cover. A member of the 67th Recruit Class, he served nearly five years in the Northwest Region and was known for courage and dedication.
Gov. Tony Evers issued a statement mourning Ritger, saying he devoted his young life to public service, and will order flags statewide to half-staff. Full law-enforcement honors are planned once funeral arrangements are announced.
Details of the fall remain under investigation. Before joining the State Patrol, Ritger served nearly three years with the Department of Corrections; colleagues remember him as unfailingly helpful and always first to step up. His death has plunged Wisconsin's law-enforcement community into mourning.
