Hawaiian Airlines Moves International Check-In to Terminal 2 at Honolulu Airport

HONOLULU — Honolulu is a city in Honolulu County, Hawaii (a consolidated city-county). The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) announced changes effective October 3: Hawaiian Airlines' international check-in counters have moved to Lobby 4 of Terminal 2 at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). According to the department's October 1 release, the shift is part of the terminal consolidation following Hawaiian's combination with Alaska Airlines, and airport signage has been updated.
At the same time, the check-in cutoff for interisland flights has been extended from 30 to 50 minutes before departure, and officials urged travelers to allow more time at the airport. Alaska Airlines also began flying the Honolulu–Kahului (Maui) route three times daily with Boeing 737 aircraft starting October 3; Hawaiian's Boeing 717 interisland fleet is slated for retirement around 2028.
HDOT said schedules and check-in arrangements may continue to change during the merger transition, and advised passengers to confirm counter locations and cutoff times on airline websites or airport notices before traveling.
Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is Hawaii's busiest air gateway, with Japan and other Asian markets supplying a large share of its international passengers, so a change in check-in locations affects many itineraries — prompting the airport and airlines to repeat the notices on websites, social media and terminal announcements. Extending the interisland cutoff to 50 minutes means even short-hop travelers, especially those checking bags at a counter, should arrive with the buffer once reserved for longer flights. Industry watchers say the combined airline will progressively link route networks and loyalty programs, strengthening Honolulu's role as a trans-Pacific connecting point; during the transition, passengers should re-confirm their bookings before heading to the airport.
