Rechargeable Hand Warmers and Electric Balloon Pumps Join CPSC's 12-Recall Week Across Major Retailers

WASHINGTON, Oct. 3 — Twelve new product recalls were published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Oct. 1, according to USA Today's review of the list. Beyond the Walmart grill brushes and squishy toys, the week's list includes rechargeable hand warmers and electronic balloon pumps — small appliances in heavy seasonal use — sold at popular retailers including Amazon, Target, The Home Depot and Dollar Tree.
Each CPSC notice names the brand, model, sales period and hazard, with remedies typically calling for consumers to stop using the product and contact the seller for a full refund. Safety specialists note that recalls of lithium-battery small appliances most often involve overheating, fire or cell defects, and that the autumn change of season is a natural moment to check household items against the CPSC database.
Consumers can search recalls by product and brand in the Recalls section of cpsc.gov, or check consumer reports at SaferProducts.gov. The same check matters for second-hand purchases: reselling a recalled product violates federal rules, so model numbers should be verified before buying used items of these types.
The week's complete list, with the remedy for each item, is on the CPSC's Oct. 1 round-up page. GSM's Life channel covered several further recalls from the same batch in the following days (see the channel's Oct. 10 items on swing seats and trimmer mowers); readers can search this channel by product name to cross-check before buying the same model again.
