Saturday, October 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

ABBEVILLE, La. — The 76th Louisiana Cattle Festival ran Oct. 2–4 in Abbeville, drawing ranching families from across the state to celebrate the faith, heritage and hard work of the cattle industry, CAST News reported on Oct. 10. The mid-century-born festival has become a landmark of Louisiana agricultural culture.

Festivities included parades, rodeo performances, livestock shows, food vendors and live music. Many ranching families span generations, bringing children along and treating the weekend as a family reunion. Organizers also named a Cattleman of the Year, honoring outstanding contributors to the industry.

Cattle ranching runs deep in Louisiana, with beef production a major pillar of the state's agriculture. Despite challenges from rising feed costs to extreme weather, ranchers remain rooted to the land, sustaining the tradition through hard work.

A third-generation rancher said the festival is about more than celebration — it's about passing on the knowledge of ranch life's hardships and rewards so young people carry the business forward.
