Pennsylvania SNAP Benefits Rise Oct. 1: 1.7 Million Beneficiaries, Average $18 More a Month

HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services announced that maximum SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits and income limits are higher under an annual federal adjustment effective Oct. 1, running through Sept. 30, 2027.

The adjustment accounts for food costs and inflation. The state said the average increase for most recipients will be $18 a month, and no one will see a decrease in benefits because of the update. SNAP is the nation's most important anti-hunger program, helping more than 1.7 million Pennsylvanians afford food.

"SNAP helps more than 1.7 million Pennsylvanians afford food for themselves and their families, and I strongly encourage anyone who may need food assistance to apply for SNAP," said DHS Secretary Dr. Val Arkoosh.

The new limits set maximum gross monthly income (200% of the federal poverty guideline) and maximum monthly benefits by household size: one person — income up to $2,660, maximum benefit $306; two people — $3,608/$562; four people — $5,500/$1,023. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reviews SNAP income standards and benefit amounts each year.

The state reminds eligible residents they can apply through the DHS website or county assistance offices.
