South Carolina Wins Increase in Federal Cost Share for Hurricane Helene Recovery to 90%

COLUMBIA — Governor Henry McMaster announced on October 8 that President Donald J. Trump has approved South Carolina's request to increase FEMA's federal cost share for Public Assistance following Hurricane Helene from 75% to 90%.
"South Carolina has worked tirelessly to recover and rebuild following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024," McMaster said. "This increased federal cost share will help reduce the financial burden on South Carolina and our communities as we continue recovery work." South Carolina Emergency Management Division Director Kim Stenson said communities have made significant progress, but the work is not finished, and the increased share provides important financial relief as state and local governments complete eligible recovery projects.
FEMA's Public Assistance program reimburses eligible state and local governments and certain private nonprofits for disaster-related costs, including debris removal, emergency protective measures, road and bridge repairs, public building and infrastructure repairs and utility repairs. FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance also helps communities reduce future disaster risk, such as elevating homes in flood-prone areas.
