Patriots Stun Bills 29-26 in NFL Week 4 Headliner Behind Drake Maye's Three TD Passes

The New England Patriots, seven-point underdogs, stunned the previously unbeaten Buffalo Bills 29-26 on Sunday, Oct. 4, in the headline game of NFL Week 4 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, according to Sports Illustrated and Last Word on Sports. Buffalo fell to 3-1 while New England improved to 2-2.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye completed 22 of 37 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns and added 54 rushing yards on eight carries. New England outgained Buffalo 405 to 340, won the first-down battle 26 to 19 and held the ball about seven minutes longer, keeping it away from Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Four different Patriots receivers topped 40 receiving yards despite the absence of the team's top wideout.

Elsewhere on Sunday, the Rams beat the Eagles 24-20, the 49ers defeated the Broncos 24-14, the Chiefs edged the Raiders 30-27 and the Cowboys outlasted the Texans 34-30. The Patriots' next four games — Raiders, Jets, Dolphins and Bears — all looked winnable for a team trying to re-establish itself as an AFC contender.

Buffalo's coach conceded his team was out-managed on ball control and tempo, with Allen forced into punts on several key third downs. For Maye, the win was widely read as a growth marker: without his top receiver and trailing in the second half, he methodically worked the short and intermediate passing game to finish off a favored opponent.
