Early Voting Begins in Wyoming Ahead of November 3 General Election

Sunday, October 4, 2026 · States · GSM News

CHEYENNE — Early in-person and absentee voting opened Tuesday, October 7, in Wyoming, with voters able to cast ballots through November 2, the day before Election Day. Under the state's voter ID law, in-person voters must show an acceptable photo ID. The mail registration deadline is October 19, and absentee ballots must reach county clerks by 7 p.m. on Election Day. Wyoming allows same-day registration.

Because Republicans dominate Wyoming politics, the August 18 GOP primary served as the de facto general election for many offices. State Senator Eric Barlow of Gillette, who won the Republican nomination for governor, faces Democrat Kenneth Casner and Constitution Party candidate Rebecca Bextel; given the state's partisan lean, Barlow is widely expected to become Wyoming's next governor.

In other statewide races: Representative Harriet Hageman won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate — the seat opened by Senator Cynthia Lummis's retirement — and faces Democrat James Byrd; Secretary of State Chuck Gray won a nine-candidate Republican primary for the state's lone U.S. House seat.
