Illinois Agrees to Delay 0.2% Crypto Tax as Industry Lawsuit Continues

On October 1, Illinois agreed with the crypto industry to delay its controversial 0.2% digital-asset transaction tax by six months, pending a judge's approval. The tax was set to take effect January 1 on crypto activity by businesses earning over $100,000.
The Digital Chamber and the Illinois Blockchain Association are suing to kill the tax permanently, calling it unconstitutional and preempted by the federal Internet Tax Freedom Act. The delay lets both sides litigate the tax's "constitutionality and enforceability" without looming collection pressure.
