NYC Mayor Mamdani Unveils Anti-Hate Measures, Doubles Prevention Funding
On September 30, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced new measures to combat antisemitism, declaring "zero tolerance" for it. The package doubles hate-crime prevention funding and invests $1 million to strengthen security at synagogues and other houses of worship.
Mamdani noted Jewish New Yorkers are 12% of the city's population but victims in about half of reported hate crimes; NYPD data shows antisemitic incidents surged 182% from last January to this January. The city will also push public schools to expand Holocaust education and teaching on Jewish contributions to New York.
