DeSantis Signs 20th Death Warrant, Setting Florida Record

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the 20th death warrant of the year on October 5, for condemned inmate Jesse Guardado, with execution set for November 5. According to Fox 13, the 20 warrants set a single-year record for Florida. Guardado was sentenced to death years ago for murder, and his appeals have been exhausted. DeSantis has accelerated the pace of executions in recent years; supporters call it justice for victims' families, while opponents cite the risk of wrongful convictions. More warrants could still be signed in the remainder of the year.
