Pittsburgh Named a 2026 World Festival and Event City, One of Only Seven Worldwide

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh is a city in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) has named Pittsburgh a 2026 World Festival & Event City, one of only seven honorees worldwide. According to USA Today, the other cities selected are Philadelphia; McAllen, Texas; Port St. Lucie, Florida; Historic Kailua Village, Hawaii; Pattaya, Thailand; and Muju-Gun, South Korea.

The award recognizes cities that excel at staging festivals, engaging their communities and building a civic brand around events. Pittsburgh's calendar is packed, with signature draws including the pickle-themed Picklesburgh food festival, the Three Rivers Arts Festival, the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival and the fast-growing Panda Fest, all of which pull in visitors from well beyond the region.

City and tourism officials said the international honor should help Pittsburgh compete for more meetings and leisure travel in 2026. Local event organizers say the festival economy has become part of the former steel city's reinvention, delivering steady business to restaurants, hotels and small retailers.

The IFEA, founded in 1956, is the professional association of the global festivals and events industry, and its awards are treated within the trade as a benchmark of a city's event-staging capacity. Pittsburgh's selection also fits the city's longer reinvention arc: from steel town to a hub for medicine, education, robotics and technology, the city has spent two decades using cultural programming to refresh its image, and visitor spending at major festivals now underpins much of the downtown business mix. Merchants say signature events such as Picklesburgh lift restaurant and hotel trade well above normal weekends. The city said it will feature the award in its 2026 tourism marketing to meeting planners and tour operators.

It is Pittsburgh's third straight year receiving the designation; its bid highlighted the International Jazz Festival, the Three Rivers Arts Festival and the Pittsburgh Marathon, with an international panel judging applicants on their support for events, economic impact and contributions to quality of life.
