Regan Lehr of Sioux Falls, South Dakota was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on October 5 for distributing fentanyl resulting in death. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Lehr sold drugs containing fentanyl to a buyer who died after use, and prosecutors charged her with distribution of drugs resulting in death. The federal judge noted at sentencing that fentanyl has become the leading cause of drug overdose deaths in America and distributors must face serious consequences. The case was jointly investigated by the FBI and local police. The Justice Department said it will continue cracking down on fentanyl distribution networks.
