Texas: Ex-Dallas Officer Amber Guyger, Who Fatally Shot Her Neighbor in 2018, Granted Parole

The Texas Board of Pardons and Parole has granted parole to former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger after "a thorough review." In September 2018, Guyger returned home from duty, walked into the wrong apartment — belonging to her neighbor Botham Jean — and fatally shot him, saying she believed he was an intruder. A jury convicted her of murder in 2019.
The case drew nationwide protests and became a flashpoint in the debate over police use of force. The victim's family famously expressed forgiveness at sentencing. Public reaction to the parole decision is still unfolding.
