Trump Heads to Texas for Third Time in a Month as Senate Race Tightens

President Trump travels to San Antonio, Texas on Oct. 7 to appear alongside Ken Paxton, the Republican candidate in the state's most-watched race — his third Texas trip in 30 days after an August Houston fundraiser, a September Dallas convention and last week's Durant, Oklahoma/Denton swing.
Paxton beat Sen. John Cornyn in the March GOP primary but trails Democrat James Talarico in polls: 51-49 (Fox News) and 51-46 (NYT). The Cook Political Report moved the race from lean-Republican to toss-up in August. A Talarico win would be Democrats' first Texas Senate seat since 1988.
Trump promised this fall to hit 35 competitive House races, but Texas keeps pulling him back. (Via USA Today)
