Man Dies After Incident at South Austin Apartment Complex; Police Investigate City's 46th Homicide of 2026
AUSTIN — Austin is a city in Travis County, Texas. Austin police are investigating the city's 46th homicide of 2026 after a man died following an incident at a South Austin apartment complex on Tuesday night, October 6.
The Austin Police Department said officers responded around 8 p.m. to the La Madrid Apartments at 11320 Manchaca Road after receiving multiple 911 calls about an incident in the parking lot. Officers found an adult man with apparent trauma to his body and began life-saving measures before Austin-Travis County EMS and the Austin Fire Department took over his care. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 9 p.m.
APD Officer Austin Zerling said investigators believe the victim and the suspect knew each other and that the incident is being considered isolated. No one had been detained as of the department's initial briefing. Police have not released the victim's identity, details about what led up to the incident, or any information identifying a suspect. Homicide detectives were processing the scene, and parts of the apartment complex parking lot were expected to remain closed during the investigation.
