NASCAR's Fall Race Returns to the Charlotte Oval for the First Time Since 2017

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte is a city in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. NASCAR's fall weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway will have a familiar look this year. In a preview released Tuesday, October 6, NASCAR confirmed that the Cup Series' fall race returns to the track's 1.5-mile oval for the first time since 2017, pivoting away from the road-course/oval "Roval" configuration used in recent seasons.
Sunday's Bank of America 400 (3 p.m. ET, USA Network, HBO Max, PRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) will headline the weekend as the Cup Series charges into the second half of The Chase. Goodyear Racing will supply the same Eagle tire setup used in each of the last two races, at Kansas Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and the same package featured in May's Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. Goodyear NASCAR product manager Rick Heinrich said that after two weeks on similar intermediate tracks, teams arrive at Charlotte on a very familiar tire package, and that with everything on the line in the run-up to Championship Weekend, Goodyear's job is to deliver setups that combine performance and reliability with exciting racing.
The undercard is full as well: the Craftsman Truck Series races Friday afternoon and the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series on Saturday. For the Charlotte region — home to the vast majority of Cup Series team shops — the return to the classic oval is both a nod to tradition and a practical advantage, letting teams apply data gathered at the Coca-Cola 600 in May to one of the most consequential races of the playoff stretch.
