Kane's Homecoming a Success as Blackhawks Hold Off Blues 4-2 for First Win of the Season

CHICAGO — Chicago is a city in Cook County, Illinois. The Chicago Blackhawks made Patrick Kane's homecoming a successful one, defeating the St. Louis Blues 4-2 at the United Center on Tuesday night, October 6, for their first win of the season.
The 37-year-old forward signed a two-year, $16 million contract ($8 million average annual value) on July 23 to return to Chicago, where he played his first 16 NHL seasons and won the Stanley Cup three times. Kane received a raucous ovation from an over-capacity crowd of 20,270 when the Blackhawks honored him with a video tribute during pregame introductions. He logged two shots on goal in 20:55 of ice time, and admitted the night was emotional — from the cheer during warmups to an introduction he once feared he might never experience again. "It's pretty special," Kane said.
On the ice, Anton Frondell and Frank Nazar each had a goal and an assist for Chicago (1-3-0). After Mason McTavish gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead late in the first period, Sam Rinzel tied the game on the power play early in the second and Frondell put the Blackhawks ahead to stay. Cole Smith's shorthanded empty-net goal made it 3-1 late in the third; Connor McMichael answered on the power play for the Blues before Nazar's empty-netter sealed it with four seconds left.
The win was tempered by an injury to Blackhawks forward Teuvo Teravainen, who left the game. But for one night, the result and the reunion shared top billing.
