Connecticut Lottery Launches Pizza Scratch-Off Game With Pepe's, Sally's and Modern Apizza

The Connecticut Lottery launched its long-anticipated pizza scratch-off game on October 6, available statewide at licensed retailers. The game, a collaboration with three of New Haven's most famous pizzerias — Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, Sally's Apizza and Modern Apizza — has generated a buzz that lottery officials say is unlike anything in recent years.
The $5 ticket features pizza-themed artwork and symbols tied to the three iconic pizzerias, with top prizes reaching six figures. The Connecticut Lottery said the idea grew out of a marketing campaign celebrating Connecticut's claim as the pizza capital of the country, a title backed by the state's passionate apizza culture and decades-long rivalry between Pepe's and Sally's.
Lottery spokeswoman told local media that the initial print run is the largest for any new game this year, and that retailers have reported brisk early sales. A portion of proceeds supports the Connecticut Lottery's contributions to the state's general fund, which helps fund education and other public programs.
The three pizzerias have embraced the partnership. Pepe's, founded in 1925, Sally's, founded in 1938, and Modern Apizza, founded in 1934, are all fixtures of Wooster Street in New Haven, drawing tourists from around the world. The lottery said the game will be available while supplies last.
