Second Suspect Arrested in Shooting Death of 13-Year-Old in Shreveport

Shreveport, Louisiana police announced on October 6 the arrest of a second suspect, Alonzo Abbott, in the shooting death of 13-year-old Shamichael Russell. The arrest marks a major development in a case that has devastated the local community.
Russell was shot and killed in a Shreveport neighborhood, in what police described as a targeted attack. A first suspect was arrested earlier; Abbott, taken into custody on October 6, faces charges including second-degree murder.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible. The department thanked community members whose tips helped advance the case.
The killing of a 13-year-old has intensified concerns about youth gun violence in Shreveport. Community leaders and clergy held vigils for Russell, calling for an end to the cycle of violence affecting the city's young people.
