Miami is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Severe weather moving across the United States disrupted air travel nationwide on Tuesday, October 6. According to Florida Today, citing flight-tracking site FlightAware, more than 2,000 U.S. flights had been delayed by about 3 p.m., including 247 delays on flights within, into, or out of Florida airports. In its daily traffic report, the Federal Aviation Administration warned that afternoon thunderstorm delays were possible at Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA), Miami (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). Orlando International recorded the most delays in Florida with 66, followed by Miami International Airport with 55, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International with 33 and Tampa International with 26. Cancellations in Florida remained minimal, with only three reported. A stalled front had drenched parts of the Sunshine State over the weekend and into Monday, when at least 765 Florida flights were delayed out of more than 5,500 nationwide. AccuWeather meteorologists said more flooding downpours were expected across much of the Southeast during the week. Passengers transiting Miami were advised to monitor airline alerts and allow extra connection time.
