Hoeven: North Dakota Farmers to Receive About $721 Million in ARC/PLC Payments This Month

Tuesday, October 6, 2026 · States · GSM News

U.S. Senator John Hoeven said North Dakota farmers will receive about $721 million in ARC and PLC farm program payments this month, according to an American Ag Network report on October 8. Hoeven made the announcement during a farm roundtable this week, telling producers the payments are on their way.

The Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs are the federal farm bill's main safety-net tools, triggering payments when crop revenues or prices fall below set benchmarks. With commodity prices under pressure this year, the payments are expected to provide significant relief to North Dakota wheat, corn, and soybean growers.

Hoeven, a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, said he is also pushing for a new farm bill that would strengthen the safety net and update reference prices. Farm groups have been lobbying Congress for months as the current farm bill extension nears its end.

North Dakota agriculture officials welcomed the news, noting that input costs remain high even as crop prices have softened. The payments are expected to begin flowing to producers in October.
