SOUTH PASADENA — South Pasadena is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The City of South Pasadena announced on October 7 that it will hold its first Emergency Preparedness and Community Fair on Saturday, October 17. According to the city's official announcement, the fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Pasadena Fire Department, 817 Mound Avenue, and is open to all residents, bringing disaster-readiness information and community services together in one place.

The city said the fair is the first of its kind locally: residents can ask fire, police and emergency-management staff how households should prepare for earthquakes, fires and other emergencies, and get practical guidance on emergency kits, evacuation routes and signing up for alert systems, alongside booths from local community organizations. With Southern California in earthquake country and wildfire seasons lengthening, officials said they hope the event raises readiness across the small city.

In the same day's announcements, the city also set its annual Halloween Boo Bash for the evening of October 23 at Orange Grove Park, 815 Mission Street, and the 31st National Prescription Drug Take Back Day for October 24 at the police department, where residents can turn in expired medications. Details of all three events are posted on the city's news page.

South Pasadena is a residential city in the San Gabriel Valley known for its tree-lined streets and historic buildings; at only about 3.4 square miles, with City Hall, the police department and the public library clustered along Mission Street, it has the close-knit feel that tends to draw strong turnout for city events. Fire officials note that state emergency guidance recommends every household keep at least 72 hours of water, food and medication, agree on a meeting place and an out-of-area contact in advance, and build the needs of seniors, infants and pets into the family plan. The city said parts of the fire station and its apparatus will be open for tours during the fair, making it a family-friendly outing; any weather-related changes will be posted on the city website and social channels, and residents can also call City Hall for updates.
