FuelCell Energy Names Matthew Latino CFO Effective Oct. 7

DANBURY, Conn. — FuelCell Energy on Wednesday named Matthew Latino as chief financial officer, effective Oct. 7, 2026, succeeding finance chief Michael Bishop as part of a planned leadership transition, Reuters reported.
Bishop, who has spent more than two decades at the company, will remain as a senior adviser through FuelCell Energy's 2027 annual shareholder meeting to support the transition. Latino joins from Xylem, where he served as senior vice president of finance and segment CFO for its Measurement & Control Solutions business, bringing experience in industrial finance and operational turnarounds.
Shares of the Danbury, Connecticut-based company fell nearly 7% in premarket trade on the news, reflecting investor unease about the clean-energy sector's difficult year. FuelCell Energy, which makes fuel cell power plants that generate electricity through an electrochemical process, has struggled with high costs and uneven demand.
The company said it expects growth to be supported by increasing demand for reliable, around-the-clock power from SI and data center infrastructure — a theme that has lifted many power equipment stocks. FuelCell Energy laid off 22% of its workforce last year as part of a global restructuring plan to reduce operating expenses by 30% from a year earlier.
The company reaffirmed its previously announced goal of achieving positive adjusted core profit in the fourth quarter of 2027. Analysts said Latino's appointment signals the board's focus on financial discipline as the company works toward that target.
