Nevada Gaming Control Board Takes Up Rewrite of Technology Standards

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Gaming Control Board at its Oct. 7 meeting took up a comprehensive rewrite of the state's gaming technology standards, the rulebook that governs the machines and systems at the heart of the world's largest regulated gambling market, iGaming Times reported.
The proposed overhaul would modernize technical requirements for slot machines, table game systems, cashless wagering and online gaming platforms — areas where technology has advanced far faster than the existing regulations. Board members and industry stakeholders discussed the scope and timeline of the rewrite during the meeting, with regulators emphasizing that the goal is to keep Nevada's standards the gold standard worldwide.
Nevada's technology standards underpin the integrity of every wager placed in the state's casinos. They dictate how games are tested, how random number generators are certified, how player funds are protected and how operators report to regulators. Industry representatives at the meeting generally welcomed the update, saying clearer, modernized rules would speed up the approval of new products.
The rewrite comes as Nevada faces growing competition from other states with legal gambling and from the rapid expansion of online and sports betting nationwide. Regulators said updating the standards is essential to fostering innovation while maintaining the strict oversight the state's gaming industry is known for.
Board staff said draft language would be circulated for public comment in the coming months, with workshops planned to gather input from manufacturers, operators and testing laboratories before any final adoption.
