Kotek, Drazan Face Off in Second Oregon Governor's Debate in Medford

Wednesday, October 7, 2026 · States · GSM News

MEDFORD, Ore. — Gov. Tina Kotek and Republican challenger Christine Drazan met Oct. 7 in Medford for the second debate of Oregon's governor's race, clashing over housing, public safety and the direction of the state with less than a month until Election Day, the Statesman Journal reported.

The debate in Southern Oregon gave voters another extended look at the starkly different visions of the incumbent Democrat and the former state House minority leader. Kotek defended her record on housing production, homelessness services and wildfire response, arguing the state is making progress on long-standing challenges. Drazan argued Oregon needs new leadership, hammering the administration on drug policy, the cost of living and what she called a lack of accountability in state government.

The candidates also sparred over the state's economy and rural issues, with Drazan appealing to Southern Oregon voters frustrated with policies set in Salem and Portland, and Kotek touting investments in infrastructure and workforce development across all regions of the state.

With Election Day on Nov. 3 approaching, both campaigns are intensifying outreach in what has become one of the most closely watched governor's races in the country. The first debate was held earlier in the campaign; the Medford face-off was seen as a key moment for undecided voters in Southern Oregon, a region where Republicans have traditionally run strong.

Polls have shown a competitive race, and both candidates used the debate to make their closing arguments to voters still making up their minds.
