Broadcom Lines Up $50B-Plus Financing for OpenAI Custom Chip

Broadcom is arranging more than $50 billion in financing for the custom SI chip it is developing with OpenAI, with Apollo and Blackstone among the firms in talks to fund it, the Wall Street Journal reported. The chip, code-named Jalapeno, is a data-center accelerator the two companies are building together.
Talks remain preliminary; the borrowing entity and terms have not been disclosed, and neither Broadcom nor OpenAI has commented publicly.
It is the second giant SI-infrastructure financing this week, after SpaceX moved to raise about $40 billion to buy NVIDIA chips in bulk. The SI compute race is shifting from tech companies' own cash to tens of billions in Wall Street debt. (GSM, from WSJ and wire reports)
