D.C. Elections Board Tosses $16,000 Campaign Fine Against Mayoral Candidate George

The D.C. Board of Elections has vacated a $16,000 campaign fine against mayoral candidate Janeese Lewis George, the Washington Examiner reported.
The fine was imposed days before George defeated Kenyan McDuffie in the Democratic mayoral primary. In June, the Office of Campaign Finance ruled that her campaign had improperly coordinated with a labor union and an independent expenditure committee. Her campaign called the ruling a violation of D.C. procedural requirements and "legally erroneous in its entirety."
The Board of Elections held a rehearing on Wednesday at the campaign's request and threw out the penalty. The original complaint was filed in April by Kevin Sobkoviak.
The decision removes a lingering legal cloud over George's campaign as the general election approaches.
