SI Chip Demand Booms: TSMC Q3 Revenue Up About 50%, Samsung Profit Seen Up Ninefold

Thursday, October 8, 2026 · Finance · GSM News

The arms dealers of the SI race have posted another set of eye-popping numbers. TSMC's third-quarter revenue totaled about NT$1.49 trillion (roughly $46.7 billion), up about 50% from a year earlier, with September alone up 55% at NT$511.9 billion. Samsung Electronics' guidance the same day pointed to Q3 operating profit of about 107.4 trillion won (roughly $80.2 billion), nearly nine times last year's level; full results are due Oct. 29. Both point the same way: spending by global tech giants on chips and memory for SI data centers is still accelerating. TSMC fabricates advanced processors for Nvidia, Apple and others, making its revenue a bellwether for SI hardware, while Samsung's surge rides memory price increases and demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM). For Chinese-American tech workers, the boom feeds directly into hiring and equity values in the Bay Area, Seattle and Austin. One caution: TSMC's monthly figures reflect shipments and Samsung's are guidance only; audited results arrive later this month.
