HBO Orders 'Crazy Rich Asians' Series; Constance Wu and Henry Golding Return, Michelle Yeoh to Guest Star

HBO has officially ordered an eight-episode "Crazy Rich Asians" series continuing the story of the 2018 film, multiple entertainment outlets reported on October 8. From the film's original cast, Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Ronny Chieng will return as series regulars, and Michelle Yeoh will reprise her role as Eleanor in a recurring guest capacity.
Adele Lim will serve as showrunner, with the film's director Jon M. Chu and novelist Kevin Kwan as executive producers. Filming is reported to begin in 2027; no premiere date has been announced.
The 2018 film grossed about $239 million worldwide on a $30 million budget and was widely seen as a milestone for Asian-led studio filmmaking in Hollywood — the first major studio release with an all-Asian principal cast in decades. (GSM, based on BBC and other media reports)
