Gov. Ron DeSantis on October 8 urged Floridians in the Panhandle to finalize hurricane preparations as Hurricane Isaias bore down on the Gulf Coast, telling residents at a briefing in Tallahassee's emergency operations center: "Execute your plan now… The time is running out."

"We've got everyone mobilized, full Monty," DeSantis said, adding that the state is preparing for a low-end Category 3 hurricane at landfall. At the time of the briefing, Isaias was a Category 1 storm with 85 mph winds, located about 500 miles southwest of Pensacola and moving east-northeast at 9 mph. Landfall was expected late October 9 into October 10 along a line from Mobile Bay to Pensacola.

The governor signed Executive Order 26-211 placing 25 counties under a state of emergency. The state has pre-positioned generators, fuel, drinking water, meals, tarps, Tiger Dams and sandbags. Jackson County declared a local state of emergency, and Pensacola Beach ordered evacuations. Forecast storm surge of 5 to 7 feet was expected from the mouth of the Mississippi River to the Suwannee River.
