DOJ and FBI Seize China-Linked Hacking Tools Microscan and FishHub

Thursday, October 8, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

The U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI announced on Oct. 8 that they have carried out court-authorized seizures disrupting two cyber tools known as "Microscan" and "FishHub" — one used to scan systems for vulnerabilities, the other to conduct targeted spear-phishing attacks. According to the Justice Department, the tools were allegedly operated and used by China state-sponsored hackers to scan and compromise U.S. and foreign critical-infrastructure and other targets. The seizures cut off the tools' ability to keep probing and breaching target systems. The takedown is the latest public U.S. enforcement action aimed at China-linked hacking activity. The allegations remain the U.S. government's claims, with legal proceedings ongoing. The names of both tools were released with the announcement. (From DOJ and FBI announcements.)
