Obama Records Video Endorsing Troy Jackson in Maine Senate Race Against Susan Collins

Former President Barack Obama on Thursday endorsed Democrat Troy Jackson in Maine's U.S. Senate race, releasing a campaign video praising the candidate's working-class roots, Seacoastonline reported on October 8.
In the video, posted to Jackson's campaign YouTube channel, Obama says: "Troy Jackson is running to be your next senator, and I'm proud to be on board." Obama highlights Jackson's record as Maine Senate president — fighting to raise wages, lower prescription drug costs, provide free lunch to every student in the state, and protect abortion rights in Maine after Roe v. Wade was overturned. "Do not sit this one out," Obama says. "Get out there and vote for Troy Jackson."
Jackson, a fifth-generation logger, said in a statement: "I'm honored to have President Obama standing with us in this fight. Working people are sick and tired of a government that works for the wealthy and well-connected while they struggle to get by."
Jackson is challenging five-term Republican Sen. Susan Collins. Democrats hope to flip the seat in their bid to retake the Senate, which Republicans currently control 53-47. According to Politico, the video is one of 24 campaign ads Obama recorded for Democratic Senate and gubernatorial candidates nationwide. Early voting in Maine runs October 5 through October 29, with Election Day on November 3. Jackson and Collins are also scheduled for a second debate on WMTW at 8 p.m. on October 8.
