DeSantis in Miami Demands Prosecution Over Leaked Hope Florida Grand Jury Report

Thursday, October 8, 2026 · City · GSM News

Miami is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis used an October 8 press conference in Miami to demand criminal prosecution of whoever leaked a grand jury report tied to the Hope Florida Foundation, escalating a controversy that has dogged his administration. Attorney General James Uthmeier appeared alongside him. The report alleged that $10 million from a Medicaid settlement was "misappropriated" to the foundation supporting Hope Florida, the initiative spearheaded by First Lady Casey DeSantis. The then-sealed report was first disclosed by CBS News Miami in late August, prompting Florida House Republicans to question the administration's transparency and giving Democrats an election-season talking point. On October 7, a state appellate court ordered the report expunged, calling it legally deficient and carelessly handled. DeSantis described the ruling as the biggest judicial smackdown of his career and said leaking the report violated the law, insisting that whoever did it should be prosecuted. Uthmeier said law enforcement is still reviewing the matter and that the statewide prosecutor could become involved if violations cross circuit lines. State Attorney Jack Campbell, whose handling of the grand jury drew the governor's fire, declined to comment, saying he is legally barred from doing so.
