Michigan State Grants Help Turn Historic Buildings Into Housing in Two Cities

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Oct. 8 announced two redevelopment projects, with state funding to help convert vacant older buildings into housing and commercial space. In Calumet, a vacant historic building at 425/427 5th St. will be turned into housing and commercial space, backed by a $1.1 million state grant plus $20,205 in local and land-bank support. The project is led by Nathan McParlan of MCP Properties. In Grand Haven, a project at 123 Washington Ave. combining commercial space with housing will receive a $390,000 state grant and housing tax-increment financing support, with Andrew Todtz as developer. The announcement also named MEDC CEO Amy Hovey and State Sen. Roger Victory. (From the Michigan Governor's Office.)
