State Trooper Runs Into Burning Minneapolis Home, Rescues Residents Before Fire Crews Arrive

Minneapolis is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota. A Minnesota State Patrol trooper ran into a burning Minneapolis home in the early hours of October 8 and rescued two residents before firefighters arrived, according to the Minneapolis Fire Department. Crews were called just before 1 a.m. to the home off 29th Avenue South near Riverside and East Franklin avenues in the Seward neighborhood, after the trooper reported the fire. The trooper got two residents out, but a third was still trapped inside. Firefighters pulled that resident from the home; the person was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The other two residents were hospitalized for smoke inhalation in stable condition, and the trooper was also treated for smoke inhalation without being hospitalized. Firefighters also rescued and revived a cat at the scene. Assistant Chief Melanie Rucker said the department's thoughts are with the injured residents and with the trooper who entered the home before crews arrived, crediting those actions and the rapid, coordinated response with preventing an even more devastating outcome. The home is now uninhabitable, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
