Advocates: At Least 21 Oregonians Detained by ICE in Three Days, Portland Metro a Focus

Portland is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon. Immigrant rights advocates in Oregon said on October 8 that at least 21 people across the state had been detained by federal immigration agents since October 6, warning of escalating enforcement activity, with the Portland metro area among the most concentrated zones.
The figures were released by Oregon for All, a coalition of more than 170 organizations including APANO, the ACLU of Oregon, Innovation Law Lab, the Oregon Food Bank and SEIU. The coalition said activity was reported in Woodburn, Salem, Portland, Hillsboro, King City, Happy Valley, Tangent and Medford, and that enforcement actions had occurred at or near schools, libraries, community colleges and hospitals.
The detentions were confirmed through a hotline run by the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC). Jess Montoya, the coalition's network director, said the numbers represent real lives being shattered, describing an October 7 arrest carried out within view of a school classroom and another incident in which agents broke a car window and left the driver behind after realizing the person was not their target. A farmworker services center in Woodburn said at least six people were arrested downtown around 11 a.m. on October 7 in what appeared to be random detentions. PIRC had earlier reported 76 arrests called into its hotline in September.
