Tennessee Reaches $1.86 Million Settlement With Aqua Finance Over Deceptive Financing

Thursday, October 8, 2026 · States · GSM News

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti announced on October 8 a $1,864,319.86 settlement with Aqua Finance, Inc. over deceptive financing practices tied to water treatment system dealers.

Under the settlement (PR26-44), $1,564,319.86 will go to consumers in the form of debt cancellation and refunds, and $300,000 will be paid to the state. The case involved financing arranged through water treatment dealers, some of which went out of business, leaving consumers stuck with loans for systems that were never properly serviced.

"Aqua Finance's deceptive financing scheme hurt Tennesseans," Skrmetti said in the release, issued at 2:10 p.m. on October 8.

The settlement follows a separate $43.6 million federal settlement involving the company and the Federal Trade Commission. The Attorney General's office said eligible consumers will be contacted about relief under the agreement.
