Former College Guard Kerr Kriisa Pleads Guilty to $2.2 Million Wire Fraud in Clarksburg

Former college basketball player Kerr Kriisa, 25, pleaded guilty in federal court in Clarksburg, West Virginia, to one count of wire fraud involving $2.2 million, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of West Virginia announced on October 8.
Kriisa, an Estonian national who played guard for Kentucky, Arizona, West Virginia and Cincinnati, admitted to a scheme dating to 2022 in which he impersonated fictitious third parties to defraud victims — including messages sent under the alias "Irene" in February 2026 demanding $9,000. He was arrested July 3 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Under the plea agreement, four of the original five counts were dismissed. Sentencing is set for December 22, with a maximum penalty of 24 months in prison.
"Financial fraud is not a game," U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey said in a statement, adding that the office will pursue fraud schemes regardless of the defendant's public profile.
