Wyoming Issues First RFP for Federally Funded EV Charging Stations

The Wyoming Department of Transportation has issued its first request for proposals for electric vehicle charging stations under the federal NEVI program, KVNF reported on October 9.
The program covers 80% of project costs with federal funds, with businesses contributing the remaining 20%. Wyoming was awarded about $27 million in NEVI funding in 2022. The state had previously declined to participate under the Biden administration's 50-mile spacing rule; under the Trump administration's more flexible guidance, stations can now cover remote rural highways.
Wyoming has received federal certification that its charging network plan is complete. Each station must have at least four charging ports, including two DC fast chargers. Proposals are due by 11 a.m. on November 18.
"Tourism is one of Wyoming's big three economic industries," said Chief Engineer Keith Fulton, adding that the stations will "alleviate EV driver range anxiety in rural areas."
