Kansas Governor Signs Executive Order Launching a 10-Year Multi-Sector Plan on Aging

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly signed Executive Order 26-06 on September 29, the opening day of the 2026 Kansas Governor's Conference on Aging, directing the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) to lead state agencies, stakeholders and the public in developing a 10-year Multi-Sector Plan on Aging. The cross-sector blueprint will cover health and behavioral health care, long-term services and supports, housing, transportation, economic security, workforce, caregiver support, social connection, emergency preparedness and age-friendly communities, with the goal of helping older Kansans live with dignity, independence and connection in the communities they call home. Kelly said Kansas is aging and must plan across agencies and sectors. KDADS Secretary Howard said the order provides a clear mandate connecting existing efforts such as Age-Friendly Kansas and the federally approved 2026-2029 State Plan on Aging. The two-day conference was held at the University of Kansas Conference Center and featured the first presentation of a public service award named for a longtime aging-services official.
