Tzu Chi USA: Eaton Fire Family Returns Home After Rebuild Completed

In January 2025, the Eaton Fire destroyed the Altadena home of the Amezcua family, forcing them out of the house they had lived in for years. A year and a half later, their new house was completed on the same lot and passed final inspection. On July 25, 2026, Tzu Chi USA volunteers joined the family's relatives, friends and neighbors at the new home for a simple blessing and homecoming ceremony.
According to Tzu Chi USA, volunteers delivered food and daily necessities soon after the fire and provided $30,000 in financial assistance to help the family through emergency housing and the early stage of rebuilding. Over the year that followed, volunteers kept visiting and accompanying the family until the new home was finished and approved.
The Eaton Fire was among the most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles County in January 2025, destroying large numbers of homes in Altadena, where many families are still rebuilding. Tzu Chi says its disaster care does not end with the ceremony and that it will continue standing with affected families on their way back home. (Source: Tzu Chi USA, tzuchi.us)
In January 2025, the Eaton Fire and the Palisades Fire, which broke out in the same period, devastated multiple communities across Los Angeles County. Tzu Chi USA began relief and care work in the affected areas soon after the fires, and the Amezcua family is one of the households it has accompanied over the long term. Information on Tzu Chi USA's disaster relief and community services is available at tzuchi.us.
