Pennsylvania Invests $448 Million to Expand Affordable High-Speed Internet

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and the state Broadband Development Authority have announced more than $448 million in federal BEAD funding to expand high-speed internet access, the program's first round of awards in the state. The number of Pennsylvania households without broadband has fallen from more than 330,000 in 2022 to under 133,000, with the remaining connections targeted for completion within four years. A new website, pa.gov/ConnectPA, lets residents without service check when broadband is expected to reach their home. Projects include fiber, fixed wireless, multi-unit housing deployment and network upgrades.
