China Records 826 Million Domestic Trips and 738 Billion Yuan in Golden Week Tourism

China recorded 826 million domestic tourist trips during the seven-day National Day holiday, with total tourism spending of 738.38 billion yuan (about $109.67 billion), the Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on Oct. 9, Xinhua reported. On a comparable daily-average basis, trips rose 6.3% from the eight-day combined National Day and Mid-Autumn holiday in 2025, while spending increased 4.3%.
The holiday featured a vibrant cultural calendar, with 180 large-scale performances held nationwide, including 125 concerts and 55 music festivals. Integration of tourism with commerce and sports deepened, as mass-participation sporting events and digital experiences offered visitors new reasons to spend.
About 40% of tourists visited revolutionary heritage sites or took part in activities such as flag-raising ceremonies — a trend with added resonance in 2026, the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Long March. Dai Bin, president of the China Tourism Academy, said visitors to such landmarks seek not only history but also inspiration for their lives today, and officials credited consumption-boosting measures with expanding holiday choices and improving the travel experience.
The data also showed spending per trip down about 1.9% year on year — a 'more trips, steadier prices' pattern in which travelers went out more but budgeted lodging and shopping more carefully. The ministry said it would keep using consumer vouchers, ticket discounts and night-consumption districts to convert holiday surges into more evenly spread year-round spending.
