Vermont's Button Up Season Offers Weatherization Rebates up to $9,500

Vermont's annual Button Up Vermont weatherization campaign opened on October 1. Governor Phil Scott and Efficiency Vermont say households that hire a certified Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractor can receive rebates covering 75 percent of weatherization costs, up to $7,000; low-income Vermont Gas customers can get up to 90 percent back, capped at $9,500; rental units qualify for up to $7,000 each; and do-it-yourself shoppers can claim a $100 rebate on insulation materials, while income-qualified families receive free weatherization services. Nearly 70 percent of Vermont homes heat with fossil fuels. After professional weatherization, oil-heated homes save more than $380 a year on average and propane homes more than $350. Free webinars run through October, including “Small Fixes, Big Impact” at noon on October 21. For Chinese-American homeowners in cold-climate states, the playbook is practical: schedule an energy audit before the rebate window closes, seal the attic and walls once, and cut both the heating bill and the risk of frozen pipes.
