Other Mommy, the horror film produced by Chinese-Malaysian-born filmmaker James Wan, opened in U.S. theaters on October 9. The same day, Wan appeared at BlumFest at New York Comic-Con at the Javits Center, sharing the stage with Blumhouse founder Jason Blum. BlumFest is the annual horror showcase staged by Blumhouse and Wan's Atomic Monster label during NYCC, featuring trailers and filmmaker appearances.

Directed by Rob Savage, Other Mommy was produced by Wan through Atomic Monster alongside Blumhouse, with Universal Pictures distributing. It adapts Incidents Around the House, the 2024 bestselling horror novel by Bird Box author Josh Malerman, with a screenplay by Nathan Elston. The film runs 93 minutes and is rated R.

Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain plays a dual role: Ursula, the mother, and the sinister entity that crawls out of her daughter's closet wearing the mother's face. The story follows 8-year-old Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), whose parents' marriage is strained, as the being she calls "Other Mommy" grows into a threat to the whole family. Jay Duplass plays the father, with Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen in supporting roles.

Born in Sarawak, Malaysia, and raised in Australia, Wan broke through with Saw in 2004 and went on to build the Insidious and Conjuring franchises and direct Furious 7 and Aquaman, becoming one of Hollywood's most commercially successful filmmakers of Chinese descent.
